Do I need to own the property to join the program?
No, the property can be owned or leased, as long as you pay an electric bill you will qualify in most cases.
Does any equipment go on premise?
No, all equipment is in fields far from your facility, nothing goes on premise.
Can I keep or use a third-party supplier while being part of a community solar program?
Yes, it is in addition to your third party, you can have both at the same time for increased savings.
Does it cost anything to join the program?
No! It is free to join and free to leave the program.
What are the savings?
10% off full electric bill annually. So, if your full electric bill is $100,000 a year, your savings would be approximately $10,000 for that year.
Is there a contract?
Depending on the State…. the years of guaranteed savings, 5-20 years depending on the program.
Is it rate sensitive?
No, rates can fluctuate up and down, the savings will always stay 10%
How do we remove ourselves from the program?
All that is needed is a 180-day notice in most States
It sounds too good to be true.
At one point it was, but recently laws have been passed to make it a reality. These programs are State legislated, there are only a handful of states in the country with the correct laws to make community solar work. We work in most of them!
Why would anyone not join?
There is no reason not to, it is a program with nothing but a positive impact on your organization.
